Accessing a 2023 tax that was completed but never mailed.

I completed the 2023 taxes, but I never mailed it. I want to delete an information and mail it this year. How do I access the form? The system is asking me what I am going to amend so they can the IRS know but I never got to mail it/. For the IRS is only a late filling not an amendment since they never receive it.

You are absolutely right. Since the IRS never received your tax return, you are not filing an amendment; you are simply filing a late return.

You must use the TurboTax 2023 Desktop software to access and edit your previously completed tax return file.

Download the 2023 tax file from Tax Home.((usually ends in .tax2023))

If you have paid for TurboTax online for 2023, then you can call in support/Live help & ask for a free TTD 2023 download.

  • Locate Your Tax File: Find the 2023 tax file you saved on your computer. This file is typically named with a ".tax2023" extension.

  • Open the Software: Launch the TurboTax 2023 Desktop application.

  • Open Your Return: Navigate to the "File" menu and select "Open Tax Return." Choose your 2023 tax file to open it.

  • Make Corrections: Once the file is open, you can navigate to the section where the incorrect information was entered. Delete or correct the information as needed.

How to File It Now

  • After making corrections, go to the “File” tab and choose “Print for mailing”.
  • Print and sign the return.
  • Mail it to the IRS at the appropriate address for your state (listed in the TurboTax instructions or on the IRS website).
  • Include Form 1040 and any required schedules.
  • If you owe taxes, include a check or money order, or pay online at irs.gov/payments.
