If you are asking where to enter monthly software expenses for a Schedule C self-employed business, you can use the office expenses category, legal and professional fees (for accounting software as an example), or miscellaneous expenses category.

If you use the miscellaneous expense category, then you can enter your own description for the expense.

Hi Anette,

Actually, I'm a freelancer and wanted to know how to handle software subscriptions that are paid monthly. Do I have to make multiple entries in expenses to break it down by month because the only option online is  " when did you purchase it" and a single date or chose a date when I made the first  purchase or he last purchase for the year and the total amount. Neither amount would be correct then but making let's say, 10 separate entries is time consuming.

Where do you see it ask when did you purchase it?  I don't recall that question except when entering an Asset to depreciate it.  You can just enter the grand total for each expense category on Schedule C.  You don't have to break it out.  Maybe you are in the wrong spot?
