Tax Topic 152 means that the IRS needs additional time to process your return and issue a refund. This means there is a delay in your refund, but no reason you would not receive it. If you are receiving the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Child Tax Credit, the IRS expects the earliest refunds with these credits to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or on debit cards starting on Feb. 27, 2019, if you chose direct deposit and there are no other issues with the tax return.

But what if I have no credits in my return a basic simple single person tax return that is the exact same every year?

That’s not true bro you will get your tax money before the 27th if everything goes right with your return.

This is taken straight from the link provided. So it was incorrect info originally posted (I assume because it’s from last year).

So does this mean I made a mistake on my returns?

Tax Topic 152 does not mean that you have made a mistake on your taxes. It's just a general message, making you aware that your return could take longer. You can use the link provided below to check out some of the common issues which may extend processing times:

So does this mean that we do not worry??  I mean when did they start this topic 152 ?  I never got this before. Is there an issue?  Should I worry?

February 18, 2020

@hapjak3232 No need to worry, being flagged for Topic 152 does not mean you did anything wrong. It just means the IRS needs to take a closer look at things for you. Below is an excerpt from the IRS website regarding  Topic  No.152.

"The IRS expects the earliest Earned Income Tax Credit and Additional Child Tax Credit related refunds to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or on debit cards the first week of March if they chose direct deposit and there are no other issues with their tax return. Taxpayers should check Where's My Refund? for their personalized refund date."

That's not true. Tax topic 152 is just a computer generated message on Refund Timing. It does not have anything to do with them needing more time. It's simply an explanation of how long it could take to process a refund. Does anybody do research before answering these questions? Jeez.

How long does it take to get your refund if you get thisTopic No. 152 Refund Information every time you check the status, will it be longer than 21 days?

@Ashleilei Unfortunaltey, the timeframe seems to be different for everyone depending on your specific tax situation. Tax Topic 152 means that the IRS needs additional time to process your return and issue a refund. You can read more about it on the IRS website: Topic No. 152 Refund Information | Internal Revenue Service

If you were showing Tax Topic 152 simply means your return is still in the processing stage and topics and bars disappearing mean the process is moving along.

The general timeline of e-filed returns is: Transmission > Acceptance > Processing > Approval > Refund.

The IRS started processing returns later than in prior years and as such has a backlog to work through. They also just recently started processing returns claiming EIC and/or ACTC.

During processing, the government reviews your refund. During the review process, they look for math errors on your return (extremely rare in TurboTax) and they also check if you owe back taxes, unpaid child support, or other debts.

If they need to make any corrections, they may offset (reduce) your refund. In some cases, the correction might even increase your refund.

Once that part's done, the government approves your refund, which means it's ready to be deposited or sent.  At that point the IRS site will update with a direct deposit date.

Some 2019 federal refunds are delayed due to the PATH Act

there are many people experiencing this long delay unfortunately. Here is a link that customers are posting on with updates: Path Act Customer updates.

If you are concerned about the status of your taxes and you are past the 21 day mark you should call the IRS to see if they can provide you with any additional information.

I will be calling a turbo tax specialist Monday to ask where the email is I was suppose to be gettting about extending the date to debit my funds!!  Can you answer that ???????  Funny how I can not get a response from turbo tax!!!!
