I need copies (transcript) for 2005 and 2006 tax returns from the IRS. Is this possible to go back that far?

IRS Federal Tax Return transcripts are only available for the current tax year and the 3 years prior.

IRS Federal Tax Account transcripts are available for the current tax year and up to 10 prior years.

You can order a copy of a federal tax return using Form 4506.  There is a $50 fee for each tax return requested.  Copies of Forms 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ are generally available for 7 years from filing before they are destroyed by law.

The IRS only retains federal tax returns for the last 7 years.  TurboTax only retains online tax returns for the last 7 years.

To access your prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created.  TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.

No, the IRS only maintains tax return transcripts for only the current year and the past 3 years.  They maintain tax account transcripts online for the past 10 years.
