Question

Is there a fee to amend tax forms if necessary fees have already been paid to file with TurboTax? I have tax liabilities for federal and state; I shouldn’t have any.

Did you file the original return?  Was it Accepted and processed?  You don’t need to pay to amend unless you need to upgrade to a higher version.  What year do you need to amend?  You should not amend until the first return has fully processed and you get the first refund or your tax due payment has cleared.

Did you owe on the original return?  Why do you think you should not owe?  What do you need to change?

There is no fee to amend a return unless the change you make requires you to upgrade to a higher version of the software; if that happens then you pay the difference between the original version and the higher version.

Wait until your original return has been fully processed before you amend, and make sure you have saved a pdf of the original return before you amend.

Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.
