Once you clicked through all 11 medical expense categories, you should get a message that says either ''You are getting a medical deduction tax break'' OR ''The standard deduction is right for you''.    Once you click on DONE at the bottom of that screen, the ''Needs Review'' message should go away and the summary should show the total of what you entered in that section.

Please give feedback. If this helps click “Thumb” or “Best Answer” if it’s a solution.

Go through each screen.  Somewhere you probably put a zero because you did not have that expense and you need to delete those zeroes.

It’s not letting me leave blank areas, enter zeros, or skip this step alltogether. I’ve never had to enter this before, and I don’t care to get any sort of credit for these expenses. I just want to do a simple return with my W-2 and 1095-A. I was able to easily do this last year, but for some reason this year it’s requiring me to enter this info.

You can get out of this by deleting the forms that TurboTax has prepared from your opening the screens that support them. If you are using TurboTax Online, see this help article and below for the steps to Delete a Form:

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. On Tax Home, select Start, Continue, or Pick up where you left off to enter your return.
  3. In the left menu, select Tax Tools and then Tools.
  4. In the pop-up window Tool Center, choose Delete a form. (Look for any form or worksheet relating to Medical expenses.)
  5. Select Delete next to the form, schedule, and worksheet in the list and follow the instructions.

If you are using a Desktop version of TurboTax, you can switch to Forms Mode (click on Forms at the top of the screen when you are in Step-by-Step Mode), review the list of forms on the left, then select the one you wish to delete. When the form displays, click "Delete Form" at the bottom of the screen.
