Non-Cash Items removed when deleting a different charity

Has anyone else noticed that when you delete a charity that all the items in a different non-cash charity also disappear?  I have a charity that was brought over from last year and I don't need it this year, so I delete it and my non-cash charity items disappear.

Wow, that is really messed up.

When I first deleted another charity, it didn't seem to remove the items in the two charities in which I had entered item donations, but right after I clicked "Done" and exited the charity area, then all the items in two other charities were removed.

I tried entering some Items in a newly created charity, and when I deleted a different charity, it still removed all items in all of them...so it doesn't depend on the Charity form carrying over from the prior year.

@Opus 17    Any reporting of this in the private area?

Sure enough...Happens in the "Online" software too.

Same things happened to me: I entered a bunch of non-cash contributions in several charities, then deleted an entirely different donation and all the non-cash items in the other charities disappeared. What a waste of time! Please email me when this is fixed so I don't make the same mistake twice!

I had a similar issue with all my non-cash items being removed after I added/updated a cash donation to one charity.   That charity had both individual, date specific donations as well as a reoccurring, month donation.  Once I added the reoccurring donation by directly accessing the form for that charity and saved it, "poof" all my non-cash item donations disappeared.

(For any "online" folks who see the following...it only applies to "Desktop" software)

I don't have any "item" donations....but TTX seems to have rewritten the Charity section.

I used the Forms too, to enter monthly and quarterly recurring $$ donations.....BUT...I worry that by doing so, the software might delete them during the final submission steps.

When entering cash donations in the interview, they seem to want just the final annual $$ for each charity.   I'm nervous enough that I may delete all my "Form" recurring $$ entries, and just go with the Annual Total $$ amount in the interview.

___________________

Note: if you have self-entered recurring $$$ amounts in the "Form", but then later put in the annual total using the interview...it messes up the donation entirely.  Ya gotta delete all your recurring donations in the Forms Mode first...then use the interview for the annual total  (if you are going to knuckle under to the "Man" and file it that way)

I have no idea why they screwed up a perfectly good working charity section.

Agreed.  Someone screwed up on rewriting the charity reporting system.    I initially used the non-form interface and all I was asked was to provide a total for each charity.    Very strange since the IRS wants to see each individual donation by amount by date.    Always been that way, always will.     One hell of a way to get audited or get your return rejected for non-compliance.

Come on Turbo Tax development team, get with it.   Itemized deductions separated by date and by amount is nothing new.   This did not happen when we had ItsDeductible!

We are having the same problem with entering stock gifts that are charitable contributions and having those entries disappear when we try to delete other charities from the list from last year.  This has been very frustrating and needs to be fixed.

Yeah..stock donations using the "Online " software have the same problem

....those get entered thru the "Items" selection in the "Online" software.

I didn't experience the problem in the "desktop" software, I guess because the entry for stock donations is an entirely separate selection.  (though, if that was ignored, and were also be entered thru the "items" selection, they might also get deleted)

Dang IT!!! , In Desktop software, one of the recent updates, they moved the Stock Donations in with the "items"  .....don't know if they'll suffer the same fate as other "items" now.

Thought I was going nuts today.  I'd add non-cash items and they'd disappear when I edited another charity.  Started saving a lot.  I hope the fix doesn't kill my work today.  I even have a charity with an empty name.  When I delete it, all my non-cash contribution forms disappear, even though they aren't associated with (Blank).

Oh, and be careful if you leave the form view and select a charity which has cash and non-cash.  If you created non-cash in the form view, be sure to check the non-cash donations on the very first screen, otherwise they will disappear.

They better fix this SOON, or they will suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous MISfortune! (i.e., lost customers...)

Then again, it was so much easier with ItsDeductible.

One app, one interface.  Just load each donation as they were made throughout the year, then import the data once as you were preparing your taxes.   Never had an issue in the years they supported it.

Sorry, I will stop beating that dead horse.

IF using desktop software, run an update today and see if it's still a problem.

My desktop software Update this morning (29 January) appears to have fixed one of the problems with items being deleted...not sure it will fix your exact problem or not.

YES! I updated and tried adding a non-cash donation to one charity, then deleting another charity, and the non-cash donation remained in the list. Survived a file save, close and reopen as well. So, it looks like at least *that* egregious bug has been addressed. Honestly, I don't understand why Intuit doesn't provide release notes like every other software company does...

For me, it looks like the bug deleting entries is fixed.  I filed my tax return yesterday.  It was REJECTED by the IRS because it didn't contain any Forms 8283.  The TurboTax folks apparently haven't gotten those forms loaded yet.
