You are correct, you can claim a larger Native Alaskan Subsistence Whaling Charitable Deduction starting in 2026. Recent tax law changes have increased the maximum limit you can deduct for recognized whaling expenses from $10,000 up to $50,000

To claim this deduction, you must be recognized by the Alaska Eskimo Whaling Commission as a whaling captain charged with the responsibility of maintaining and carrying out sanctioned whaling. activities

When navigating TurboTax, you will enter your whaling expenses, such as boat maintenance, weapons, gear, and crew food, under the Deductions and Credits section for charitable contributions.

Please see: How do I enter my charitable donations in TurboTax?

The higher deduction takes effect for 2026. You will be able to claim the higher deduction on your 2026 tax return that you file in 2027.
