Will my ENTIRE refund be offset, for defaulted student loan debt, or is it the same as the law on garnished income for student debt (I believe, for that, the max is 15%)?

Will they take half of it?
15%?
All of it?
Is there anything I can do to stil it or to at least minimize it?

I was relying on this tax return big time this year, due to currently being unemployed.
When I checked the status of my return in the IRS website, it stated the day that my refund will be sent to my bank (in a few days), but it also had a special note, that I'm not sure, but I think it's directly for me, unless it's a standard warning that they gice everyone, but I doubt that.

It said that there could be an offset applied if I owed child support, Unemployment wages that were fraudulently paid or overpaid, and other non-tax debts (federal debts, I think it said).

I don't have any children, and, although I did recently get Unemployment insideins benefits, theyret not attained fraudulently and not overpaid or anything like that, at least not to my knowledge, so as long as I don't have kids I don't know about out there, I'm pretty sure it has to do with the student loans I owe.

The note says that the IRS doesn't know how much or why, and that, in the case I should have an offset applied, The answering agency in charge of the sent collection would send a notification with the amount and reason.

I am really worried be from reading all these people saying that they take it all.

If your delinquent student loan debt exceeds your refund, they will seize the entire refund--not just a percent of it.  TurboTax does not receive any information or feedback regarding refund offsets.  That will be done by the Bureau of Fiscal Services.
