Enter the 1099-Q*, before you enter educational expenses.

Assuming the student is yourself or your dependent:

In TurboTax (TT), enter expenses  at:

Federal Taxes Tab (Personal for H&B version)

Deductions & Credits

-Scroll down to:

--Education

  --Education Expenses

*In TurboTax (TT), enter the 1099-Q  at:

--ESA and 529 Qualified Tuition Programs (1099-Q)

THAT WAS A GOOD ANSWER!  I discovered, in speaking with a TT Advisor, that my mistake was in not recognizing that a 529 Plan was also a "QTP" (qualified tuition plan, duh) and consequently in answering that question with a "No."  Had I answered the question "Yes" then TT would have conducted me to a screen for listing and deducting my 529 school expenses, as explained by Hal-AI.  TT needs to add "529 Plan" to the question to help dummies and the inattentive get it answered properly!
