My daughter graduated from college the first quarter of 2023 and the tuition for the quarter was paid in December of 2022, she was a full time student. I paid no tuition in 2023, but we did have lab fees, books and a few other school fees from her last quarter.
Will i receive a 1098T for the lab and other qualifying fees? It is February 6th and nothing has showed up under her account? If the answer is I will not receive one, can I still claim the lab fees and books somewhere?
Thank you

Q. Will i receive a 1098T for the lab and other qualifying fees?
A. Probably not.
Q. Can I still claim the lab fees and books somewhere?
A. Yes. After saying you didn't get a 1098-T, answer yes to the question do you qualify for an exception. That will allow you to enter your expenses.
Graduating in May, usually means that 2023 was the student's 5th calendar year of school. If you have already claimed the American Opportunity Credit (AOTC) 4 times. in the past, you are not eligible in 2023. The alternate Lifetime Learning Credit (LLC) is 20% of tuition and fees paid (up to $10K) and does not have a refundable portion.
Thank you Hal
