When you enter the section for dependents and type in the information about your children the system will ask for their birthdates.  Once you have indicated that they are over 17 the system will ask if they are full time students.  Answer yes to this question and you should be all set.

Once you have indicated that they are over 18 (and under 24) the system will ask if they are full time students.  Answer yes to this question.

For students over 23, later, in the educational expenses section, you will be asked to enter their student info. Students, over 23, do not qualify, as your dependents, if their income is more than $5050.

That’s the problem.  There is no question asking if they are college students.

What is it you are trying to do?   How are "your college students" related to you? What are their ages?

My children.  My son turned 24 in October, but was 23 for the 5 months he a was a full time college student & my daughter is 21 full time college student.  There is no option anymore to put down they are college students on TurboTax.  Wondering how I’m missing this section.

Well you son is 24 or older in 2024 and doesn’t qualify for being a student anymore.  You won’t get that question.  He only qualifies for the other dependent $500  if he had less than $5,050 income.

For your daughter go back and delete her and enter her again.  That usually fixes it.  There are a couple questions that’s easy to answer the wrong way.  So go slow.

You will not get the Full Time student question for the 24 year old.  Being 23, earlier in the year, is not relevant. Age at year end is all that counts.

You will only get the student question for the 21 y.o. depending on how the other questions were answered.  How did you answered them. Does TT conclude that she is your dependent?

There are two types of dependents, "Qualifying Children"(QC) and Other ("Qualifying Relative" in IRS parlance even though they don't have to actually be related). There is no income limit for a QC but there is an age limit, student status, a relationship test and residence test.

A child of a taxpayer can still be a “Qualifying Child” (QC) dependent, regardless of his/her income, if:

  1. He is under age 19, or under 24 if a full time student for at least 5 months of the year, or is totally & permanently disabled
  2. He did not provide more than 1/2 his own support. Scholarships are excluded from the support calculation
  3. He lived with the parent (including temporary absences such as away at school) for more than half the year
