In the educational expenses section of TurboTax: After answering no to having a 1098-T, answer yes to qualifying for an exception (that gets you to the entry screens).
To be eligible for the tuition credits, the course must be taken at "an eligible institution". The school should be able to tell you if it is an eligible educational institution. In general, an eligible educational institution is an accredited college, university, vocational school, or other postsecondary educational institution, including accredited, public, nonprofit, and proprietary (privately-owned, profit-making) postsecondary institutions. Additionally, in order to be an eligible educational institution, the school must be eligible to participate in a student aid program administered by the Department of Education. If they don't issue a 1098-T they are probably not an eligible institution.
Enter your school at the link below, to see if it's on the dept. of education list.
Thank you. It is an Accredited institution but still does not allow. Institutuin does not provide 1098 because this specific program does not work towards degree. But thank you for your response
If the course work does not work towards a degree or other recognized credential, you are not eligible for the more generous, and partially refundable, American Opportunity Credit (AOC or AOTC). But, you are eligible for the Lifetime Learning credit (LLC), which is 20% of tuition paid, up to $10,000. The LLC is non refundable (you must have a tax liability to offset).
