Getting tax credits for education completed in previous years

Hello, I am a temporary resident in Canada. I have completed my education in 2017 and 2018 in Canadian College. I reported my taxes in 2019 and 2020 but didn't claim for any tuition tax credits. Is it still possible to claim it now? Should I try to change my return for 2020 with including my tuition expenses? (got t2202 for 2017 and 2018). Thanks!

Are you asking about claiming the credit on a Canadian tax return or on a U.S. tax return? This is the U.S. TurboTax support community. Please post your question about Canadian taxes in the Canada TurboTax support community, at the following link.

On a U.S. tax return you cannot claim credit for tuition that you paid in past years, or for tuition you paid in the current year for classes that you took in past years. On your 2020 U.S. tax return you can only claim a credit or deduction for tuition that you paid in 2020 for classes that started in 2020 or in the first three months of 2021. Also, on a U.S. tax return you can only claim education credits or deductions for tuition at "an eligible educational institution" that is "eligible to participate in a student aid program administered by the U.S. Department of Education." Your Canadian college might not meet that requirement.
