Do I need the deluxe edition to claim the lifetime learning credit?

No.  Educational credits like the Lifetime Learning Credit are available in the Free Edition.

Do I need the deluxe edition to claim the lifetime learning credit?

I am being uncharged for this exact reason.  2 states @ $50 each and Federal @$60.  !!
