I entered the info from the 1098-T from my child's college and a 1099-Q I received from 529 plan withdrawals. However, the 1098-T included only tuition and not 529-qualified fees so I entered those in Part IV, line 2 of the Student Information Worksheet. My TurboTax generated forms then showed no tax owed on 529 withdrawals which was correct. This is how I've always handled things in the past, but something is broken now. I proceed to e-file my returns and closed TurboTax. The next morning, I opened the program to finish estimated payments and the entry on Part IV, line 2 had been removed and my federal and state returns had been changed and were showing tax owed on the 529 withdrawal. I am confident I do not owe this tax and this is a bug in TurboTax. (I have been able to repeat this problem and other users have reported it as well.) How do I know which version was e-filed, the correct one after my entry on this worksheet, or the incorrect one after TurboTax wiped out my entry upon closing and re-opening it?
