Why doesn't turbotax support efiling the QBI deduction worksheet schedule B-Aggregation of business operations

Have you tried to efile again after February 28, 2020?

Qualified business income deduction is supported. TurboTax will calculate whether you qualify.

The worksheet you are referencing is part of completing Form 8995-A, Qualified Business Income Deduction, which is available for print and e-file.

Ok. Well, please check out this formatting approach to aggregate your businesses by TurboTax Expert DavidS127. If you used a different approach, this may be worth considering.

David's method only work with turbotax software, not TurboTax online, which is what I use, thanks for the suggestion

Why doesn't turbotax support efiling the QBI deduction worksheet schedule B-Aggregation of business operations

I'm posting instructions for how to aggregate or "un-aggregate" your QBI businesses for 2019.

You'll need to decide whether or not you want or need to aggregate any businesses in 2019.  Once you aggregate (e.g., in 2018), you must continue to aggregate in future years.  But, not aggregating last year does not preclude you from aggregating this year.    Refer to the IRS instructions for Form 8995-A for more information on aggregation.

If you want or need to aggregate any businesses, as of this morning 3/3/2020 the return is print and mail only in TurboTax.  If I can confirm a date that TurboTax will enable e-file for aggregated QBI businesses, I will update this post.

If you do not need or want to aggregate any businesses, here is how to “un-aggregate” them in TurboTax Online or TurboTax Download/CD:

  1. Go to Delete a Form: In the left menu, select the dropdown arrow next to Tax Tools and then under that select Tools; in the pop-up window Tool Center, choose Delete a form.
  2. Find the QBI Component form for the aggregated businesses.  Delete that QBI Component sheet.
  3. Now, go to Review and start the review routine.
  4. You will have an error for each business that no longer has a QBI Component form.  For each of those businesses, you will see the “primary” form for that business (Schedule C, Schedule E, K-1). It will be highlighted for Question A in the Qualified Business Income Deduction Smart Worksheet.
  5. Double click in the highlighted Question A box, and you will get a pop-up asking you to link to a QBI component worksheet.  Create a new copy for that business (e.g., give it the name of that business).
  6. Continue until you have created a separate QBI component worksheet for each business that you do not want to aggregate.

Note that you could also use these instructions to aggregate businesses.  Delete the QBI component worksheets for each business you want to aggregate, go to the Review, and link all the businesses to the same QBI component worksheet.

I went in and deleted this worksheet on the forms page and was then able to efile, had seen a thread of someone else that successfully gave that a try.  Was happy not to have to snail mail it, thanks for all the replies and suggestions.

The proposed workaround does not solve the problem.  As long as there's aggregation and a QBI Schedule B is needed, TurboTax refuses to e-file.

I tried to delete the QBI form following David's suggestion, but it can't(i click the Delete button next to the form but when i come back, the form is still there). I am using TurboTax online. The aggregate feature is new, in previous year, TurboTax didn't automatically aggregate. Is there an option that TurboTax don't do aggregate?

Form 8995-A Schedule B e-file will be enabled in the update scheduled on or about 4/1/2020.

If you do not want to aggregate your QBI business, and cannot undo the aggregation by deleting the QBI Component and QBI Ded Summary forms and stepping back through the interview questions for your K-1, contact TurboTax Customer Service and request a Download/CD version of TurboTax.  You can transfer your TurboTax Online tax file to the Download/CD version, and then change the way your businesses are aggregated or not aggregated.

Does this issue fixed by TurboTax? I am using the cd/download version of premier, issue still there, I tried to download and update TurboTax today (June 18th,2020), but I keep getting the following error: “we won’t be able to e-file your return, here is the detail: you have qbi xxxx statements “ xxxx is my business.

My TurboTax Download/CD will proceed all the way through the File section to e-file section aggregated Schedule C QBI businesses.  So, it is not clear why your aggregated businesses will not e-file.

It would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2019" file that is experiencing this issue.  You can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information.  If you would like to do this, here are the instructions:

For TurboTax Download/CD, on your menu bar at the very top, click “Online” and then “Send Tax File to Agent”.  When you click to send, you will get a pop-up with the token number.  Reply with the token number and I’ll be able to open a TurboTax tax return with your numbers but not your personal information.

Why doesn't turbotax support efiling the QBI deduction worksheet schedule B-Aggregation of business operations

Sorry for the late response. My story: I aggregated my businesses for 2018 tax return  with QBI status and no issue to efile with turbo tax. And when I prepare my 2019 tax return now I import from my 2018 turbo tax file. And with newest update from turbo tax still failed to efile.
my token number is 670580.

i am suspecting if I start a brand new tax return without importing any 2018 information may fix this problem but it is time consuming thing for me.
thank you very much for your help.

I looked at your tax file for Token 670580, and the issue causing the "can't e-file, must print and mail" message is the "safe harbor" statement for your combined rental properties (Rental Real Estate Enterprise Statement).

The IRS requires a "manually signed and dated" safe harbor election statement.  Unfortunately, TurboTax does not support a PDF attachment of a signed safe harbor election.  As a result, you are required to print and mail the tax return.
