"I deleted that but 8943 remained there with the box checked...."
Rather than 8943, are you referring to IRS form 8949 Sales and Other Dispositions of Capital Assets?
If so, I think that you want to remove the form from your income tax return.
What transaction does the IRS form 8949 with box F checked report? That would be the income that needs to be removed.
My apologies; form *8453*; form 8949 does not have "[a] box for Form 8949 checked (last box)".
In my repro .tax2023 file that shows the bug I have 8453 with the last entry "checked" and there is no form "8949" in the return. As I said I had deleted all the Sched D stuff (i.e. all the 1099-B's) from the return.
The bug still repros. "Error check" etc all pass without the form (overriding the checkbox, which causes the form to disappear) so that's a work-round.
Do you have an uploaded PDF file that has not yet been removed from TurboTax Online? That may be what is triggering the IRS form 8453 with form 8949 checked.
If so, click Documents in the upper left hand corner of the screen. You may see a PDF file uploaded into the TurboTax software.
To remove, click the three dots to the far right and select Delete.
To return to the tax return, click on Tax Home in the upper left hand corner of the screen.
This is TurboTax 2023 not online, and I don't use the download stuff either (so it's a very simple case); the only Schedule D stuff is from 1099-B and I entered all the 8949 information correctly for boxes C and F. When 8543 (or whatever the number is) popped up on the printed return I experimented by removing all Schedule D information (so all the 8949 went; it's auto-generated) but it was still there.
Clearly a bug.
I had hoped the March 13 update would fix it but it didn't; no response to my bug report for 13 days!
In TurboTax Desktop Home and Business, I entered an IRS form 1099-B by Sales section total.
In the Desktop version, this process requires that a printed copy of the IRS form 1099-B is mailed to the IRS after electronically filing the tax return.
The printed IRS form 1099-B is attached to an IRS form 8453 with the last option checked.
The IRS form 8453 with option form 8949 checked.
I am able to remove the single IRS form 1099-B entry by clicking on the delete trashcan to the right of the transaction at the screen Your investment sales summary.
The IRS form 8453 now no longer has a box checked.
What was the nature of the class action lawsuit which was previously reported on IRS Schedule D?
