Hi, thank you in advance for your help. So in 2021 my husband filed for me, put me in as single (we were getting divorced). I did not work that year due to taking care of dying father. I was not on unemployment either... I did try to get health insurance through healthcare.gov for 4 months but it was cancelled because I couldn't afford it monthly. When u filed the IRS denied my taxes and sent them back and told em I owed them 1500$. I have no idea what or why. I tried an amended return for that year 2021 and it said I was to receive 3k. So I resent it and once again they said I was wrong and that I owed 1500$. How could I owe that much when I didn't even work and I also have a dependent? I can not get in contact with TurboTax to help either. I've been trying to fix this for years.

For you to owe money with no work sound like economic impact payment or another issue is at work. At this point, you need an advocate. The Taxpayer Advocate Service is designed to help individuals work through issues with the IRS. See Taxpayer Advocate | Internal Revenue Service or call 877-777-4778.
The letter that the IRS sent you should have explained what they changed.
If you were still married at the end of 2021, you can't file as "Single". You would have probably filed as "Married Filing Separately".
If you had health insurance through the Healthcare Marketplace and received Advance credit to reduce the cost, filing as Married Filing Separately disqualifies the credit. Part of that $1500 could be related to that.
Did you have ANY income? Or lived in a Community Property State and had to include some of your husband's income?
It is extremely difficult to give you a complete answer without seeing and knowing the entire situation. I suspect that bringing your situation to a tax professional is the best way to get the answers that you are looking for.
