help: cannot file because of schedule C error: employee credits for small businesses

Had a chance to speak to a tax specialist at TT. They are waiting on approval of the TT version of form 3800 and 8881 from the IRS. They have not received any update from the IRS yet. Currently it is anticipated 03/07/2024 but the date estimate may be meaningless as they have had no communication from the IRS. A solution posed by the representative was to print the forms and manually enter them on the IRS website. I appreciate the solution but it is not a reasonable one.

I JUST TRIED AGAIN AND IT LET ME FILE. PLEASE GO TRY TODAY 🙂 It is 2/29/24

I do have some appreciation for TT's warning of possible revisions to the supporting forms.  The messaging method is way off. Do not use a red pop up to block submittal. Then require a customer to go wandering around a chat room to get limited feedback. How about a simple warning; Caution. IRS approval of the e- filing has not been received by TT. Paper filing is possible but may require a resubmittal.  For further detail see this link....  Treat a customer as an adult?

Same issue - This keeps getting delayed week by week - now says March 10th.  I don't want the credits, if they even apply to me - but I do want to file my taxes - not taking these credits, but I can't with the error message.

Please allow us to just file with zero credits.

Somehow I was able to file. I woke up on March 1 and decided to check status via the mobile app. And it ended up letting me move past the review step and file. Don't know if it had anything to do with getting on mobile or not. But it worked. If you're still waiting...maybe try mobile. 😬

just tried the mobile app and it's STILL not working.  This is my last year with TurboTax!   Their online chat support people have been completely rude a-holes as well!   I filed a complaint with the BBB today and am switching to HR Block next year.  Enough is enough.

Hello everyone,

I was finally able to file yesterday, but had to go through some hoops.  Hopefully this will help some of you.

When i started TT, there was a message to update.  I tried several times and it gave an error.  It wouldn't let me install the update of even get into TT.  I went to the downloads page to reinstall the program.  It gave an error i had to uninstall the old version first, so i did that through the Windows Settings \ Apps console.

Then i went back to the TT download and downloaded and installed the program.  It downloaded the latest version and i did not need to run any updates.  It automatically found my tax file, so i did not have to re-enter any data.

At that point, i was able to go right to the Smart Check, let it check my return, and i was able to file with no errors.

I hope this helps!

I am using the online version. Does this apply to me to? I just don't quite understand.

Sorry, i was clear on that.  I am using the desktop version, not the online version.  I am not sure how that would be updated.

TurboTax Online is updated automatically whenever program updates are released (usually Thursday/Friday nights).  @dpalermo45

There have been recent developments that required additional updates to Form 3800. This is why you are not able to complete a return with a business. The revised Form 3800, General Business Credit, is estimated to be released on March 6, 2024Because updates are released after business hours Pacific time, we recommend you wait until the next day, run Review, then try your e-filing again.

Bingo!  I was finally able to file after all this delay! The secret was having to update the TT software.

Today is March 3.

Why does this keep getting pushed back? I don't understand it. Everyone is saying other software is letting them file. This is ridiculous

It is now March 4 and I'm still getting the same error. I don't want the credit and don't think it applies. TT is preventing me me from filing because of the stupid check on schedule C.

Fix this TurboTax.
