Since you didn't receive your second stimulus check, you needed to file a tax return for 2020 and have the recovery rebate credit listed on it on line 30 of form 1040. Once your 2020 tax return is processed, you should receive the third stimulus check separate from your tax refund, which will include your second stimulus check.
If you filed your tax return for 2020, you can check on the status of your refund by using this link: IRS refund tool
If you need additional support, you need to call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 or 1-800-919-9835 to inquire about your stimulus payments.
If you did not receive a second or third stimulus payment, create an IRS online account to see whether your payment was sent and lost.
If your payment was lost you can start a trace by:
If no payment was sent, your third payment will be included in the refund when you file a 2021 return. You will either have to file or amend your 2020 return to get the second payment.
Third payment
You can find information on the Third Stimulus Payment at Get My Payment.
If you didn't qualify for a third Economic Impact Payment or got less than the full amount, you may be eligible to claim the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit based on your 2021 tax year information. If you're eligible, you'll need to file a 2021 tax return even if you don't usually file a tax return. Your 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit will reduce any tax you owe for 2021 or be included in your tax refund.
First and second payments
First and second payment information is no longer available in Get My Payment. To find the amounts of these payments, view or create your online account. You can also refer to Notice 1444 for the first payment and Notice 1444-B for the second payment. The IRS mailed these notices to the address we have on file.
All first and second Economic Impact Payments have been sent out by the IRS. If you didn't get a first and second Economic Impact Payment or got less than the full amounts, you may be eligible to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit by filing a 2020 tax return if you have not filed yet or by amending your 2020 tax return if it's already been processed.
If you filed a 2020 return and did not receive a payment you can filed an amended 2020 return.
