Home office depreciation - Amount vs AMT

Hi,

I have a home office and I'm in the section of Turbo Tax Desktop claiming home depreciation.

There are 2 boxes:

  • "Amount of Depreciation Take in Prior Years" AND
  • "AMT Depreciation Take in Priory Years"

What is the difference between these 2 boxes?

It depends. ‌The first box mentions home office depreciation that has been taken in the past. If you have taken AMT depreciation in the past, you would enter that amount. If you were never subject to AMT however, the number should be zero.  However, if you get an error message about this entry, just record the same number as you recorded for regular depreciation.

the amount of AMT depreciation in prior years is in most cases the same as the regular depreciation even if form 6251 (for AMT) was never filed.
