Error message for business mileage calculation

Change your beginning mileage to the same as your ending mileage, so that you have zero total miles driven.    Once you do that, the error will go away and your car worksheet will remain with the Schedule C and carryover to next year.    @emisaacs

Error message for business mileage calculation

I am converting 2 vehicles to personal use effective 1-1-22 no business use any longer. Owned Veh. 1 since new 1995 and has been  fully depreciated through various levels of use >50% and <50%. Veh 2 was gifted to me in 2017 and have had various business use <50% since 2011 with no business use (0 miles) since 2018. Veh 2 never any depreciation of any kind taken. Program will not allow (creates an error) 0 miles in business use 1/1/22-6/30/22 with more than 0 miles in total miles driven for either veh. I did drive personal miles on both vehicles in 2022. I am reluctant to present these vehicles as 0 miles driven in 2022. This amount appears on form 4562 which goes to the IRS. in case of audit they could say I was lying. This really seems to be a program fault. Am I forced to print and mail with these correct figures as opposed to business miles must be greater than 0 which is prevented with errors.  Token #. 1121812

In some cases, entering odometer readings allows you to report zero business miles.

But if you didn't use the vehicle at all for your business, you should check the box at the bottom of the page "Tell us about your business vehicle" that says, "I stopped using this vehicle..." Checking this box allows you to report that you either sold the vehicle or converted it to personal use (no sale). This also allows you to enter zero mileage for the year.

Tried all of these I still get for the 1/1-6/30 "Business miles must be greater than zero."

Try deleting all entries for the odometer readings (beginning & ending).

Enter zero for Total miles driven and zero for business miles from 1/1 thru 6/30

Delete any other entries you made for miles driven. This seems to remove the form error.

Error message for business mileage calculation

Thanks, Yes that does work. I am just leery of providing incorrect information to the IRS. Audit potential always feels like a crapshoot as it is. I was audited years ago for stopping taking a home office deduction (as it was being promoted as an audit trigger in the media and I wanted to avoid an audit.) Turns out I was required (according to the IRS Auditor) to take that deduction in order to be eligible to deduct my business milage. Never had an error for zero business miles on Veh 2 the past few years. :>)

I have the same problem. Truck into service 10/3/2023. No mileage for he first six months. Keeps flagging that and will not let me efile. Extremely frustrating. I've already paid to efile and I guess I could print and mail but even then it warns me that there is an error in my return. Did you get your issue resolved. I need help.

Error message for business mileage calculation

I got the same error. It evidently does matter because it won't let me efile and keeps cycling me back to the box that says it should be zero. I have a zero in the box and can't get any further. This is beyond frustrating and the fact that you have to pay to get actual help from Turbo Tax is just wrong. It's their glitch.

This "error" is preventing me from efiling. Turbo Tax needs to address this. I need help resolving this and can not get an answer. So all of you that got this message can efile? Or are you mailing your return and ignoring the message.

I am using Turbo Tax Home and Business. I need help getting this glitch fixed so I can efile. I did not own the Truck until 10/3/2023 so that zero in the first six months box is causing a real big issue! Is their a resolution?

Error message for business mileage calculation

I am having this exact problem and it will not let me efile. Keeps cycling me back to the error. So frustrating. I didn't own the truck until 10/2023. Zero in the first six months box. It keeps prompting me to put zero in the box. Did you get your issue resolved.

TT will not allow the box to be blank. It automatically puts a zero in the box. My review still flags it as an error. TT needs to fix this glitch. I do not know what else to do. Did anyone ever get this resolved? How did you do it. Following the instructions of going back to the form and correcting from there did not work. UGGH!

But why won't it let you efile if it's just a heads up?
