Ending a Partnership

Under the "State Taxes" > "Your State Return" section, I'm being asked about Partnership Income, but the partnership ended in 2015. How do I tell the system that the partnership no longer applies to my 2016 return?
thanks for any help you can provide.

Ending a Partnership

You are likely seeing this question because you had Partnership income in the last tax year; and then when you began this year's tax return, the previous income items (or categories) moved forward from the prior year.  That's perfectly normal and expected.

You might have been asked, for example, in the very beginning of the program, if the following items of income (insert your individual list from last year here) still apply.  If you saw this screen at one point, you would have had the opportunity to remove the Partnership references from your tax return in its initial states.

That said, we can probably infer this much:  the problem lies on the federal side of the tax return, because that is where Partnership income is entered.

One approach to try, to get rid of a pesky item such as this in TurboTax online is to try the "Delete a Form" option.  We have a FAQ page devoted to doing just that, and here is the link to it (instructions included) for your reference:

Now then,  you can (and should try to) remove the Partnership references another way.  That method is to visit (or revisit) the Schedule K-1 Partnership data entry landing point in the program, and remove the offending Partnership income item(s) that way.  Here is a link to our FAQ article that describes exactly how to do that:

If neither of those avenues work, and if you're still stuck, then please call us to speak with a live agent.  We can screen-share with you, and see exactly what you do; with that visual information, our experts can help you navigate the program.
