I am the only officer and did not receive any compensation. Yet I am not able to answer "0" to the question "Number of officers with compensation". I am wary of answering this when I have no compensation listed on the return, nor do I have a W-2.

Officers are assumed to be compensated in some way for their participation.  In your case even if the income was negative for this year you've promised yourself future compensation.  So go ahead and change it to 1.
