It appears you can't do that in TurboTax Online. You can expand cells and add supporting details using the Desktop software in Forms mode.
I m using the downloaded version of TT Deluxe. To add details, you can no longer do it in the "step-by-step" section - you have to go to the specific box in forms by clicking on "Forms" while viewing the specific box in the step-by-step section. You can then right click on the form entry box and generate a detail box.
Yes you can add notes in TurboTax CD/Download version. Select Forms in the top right corner, the scroll to select the form where you want to add supporting information. Not all fields will allow a supporting details entry, however some do. Find the field where you want to add supporting details then right click to add. In my example below it was added for the specific information printed by using the Dependent Wks in the list of forms on the left.
Supporting details can be good so that you have the notes you want to carry forward for future tax returns.
This is very unfortunate you took this ability away in the step by step. It was handy when you needed to add up a few items (like property taxes which are paid 2x a year). PLEASE RETURN THIS FEATURE--iI don't want to have to go looking for the correct form, that is what turbo tax is for.
I'm using TurboTax Business (desktop) for the first time and have been trying to add a detailed list for Tax Exempt Interest Income. I couldn't figure out how to do it until I stumbled across this discussion and was so happy to finally know! Thank you!
But, I'd like to have the detail print with the return. I see the checkbox at the top to not print the details, but with the box unchecked I don't see where the detail is printing. I'd expect it to show up as a statement in the return with a label and a statement number near the line item (in this case Line 18a of Form 1065. Does anyone know where I can find the statement, or how to get it included in my return (and individual K-1s prorated for each partner if possible).
Yes, you can print/save the supporting details by choosing to print the specific form and supporting statements. The details you entered appear on a page of "Additional Information" that includes the form name and entry description.
For more help, see: How do I print a single tax form in the TurboTax CD/Download software?
If you wish to add information to the K-1s, you may enter this using Forms Mode on each Schedule K-1 (Partner Name) in the Supplemental Information Smart Worksheet. This info will be included with the K-1s as Additional Information. While TurboTax will allocate income & expenses according to the partner percentages, the supporting details you enter are not part of the IRS forms and allocations.
Thank you for your help. I wish the program had some help inside it, without requiring you to rely on the community for help.
