If you have depreciating assets from previous years or assets you have elected to take the Section 179 deduction on, TurboTax will calculate and carry forward (when appropriate) any allowable deductions without you having to re-enter any information. Also, if you have a business loss carryforward, TurboTax will calculate your allowable deduction based on your other entries.
See What is depreciation? and Net Operating Losses for more information.
Thank you for your reply. Upon further investigation, it seems that the system is, behind the scenes, moving some expenses entered (via Easy Step) in the Business Vehicle Expense section into the Other Common Business Expenses section. This makes up the discrepancy in the total I am getting for Other Common Business Expenses. Is this correct, and if so, why ? Thanks again.
I can't recreate your situation in my test system. It would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2022" file that is experiencing this issue.
You can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions:
Go to the black panel on the top of your screen and select Online.
We will then be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return and provide you with a resolution.
