How awful.  If your tax returns were prepared using desktop software which you had installed or downloaded to your own computer, then the tax files were only stored on that computer or any backup devices you used like a flash drive.  They are not stored online with TurboTax.

You can get free transcripts from the IRS or for a fee of $50, actual copies of the returns.

Of course if you used online TT, then the returns are stored in your online account(s).
