Will the processing time for a prior year return be longer? If so, how long?

I have to file a prior year return and being that it won't be an e-file per say, I would like to know how the process works.

Expect 8 weeks or more.

A prior year return can only be filed by mail.  Expect it to take at least four weeks for a human at the IRS to open your envelope and enter the information into the system.  Then it will take at least three to four weeks--or longer-- for the IRS to process the return.  Once it has been entered into the system you can track your refund on the IRS refund site.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2023 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
