I filed my 2019 taxes early this year, and checked the box saying I could be claimed as a dependent. I did this without communicating with my parents, who didn't claim me as a dependent on theirs because I don't live at home and they don't pay my bills, except for over the summer for a month or two. Because of this, I didn't receive a stimulus.
Then, I filed an amended return to remedy this, with the single change being that check box, changing it to say that I could not be claimed as a dependent. The IRS received this amended return, but have not processed it. My question is, once this is processed, will I get a stimulus check? Is there anything at all I can do to get a stimulus check? I'm pretty poor and the money would help A LOT.

IF the amended return actually gets processed by the end of the year you MAY get it .... but since amended returns are taking 4 to 6 months to process I would not hang my hat on this happening. What you will be able to do is apply for the credit on the 2020 return filed next year ... just make sure to not make the same mistake again ... pay attention in the MY INFO section.
Is claiming that credit a simple process? I assume so but could they reject it if my amended return isn't processed by then? Otherwise they could just cite the same reasoning I didn't get it in the first place.
It is a very simply thing ... in the 2020 program you will be asked how much of the credit you got in 2019 ... you answer zero and you are done ... program does the rest.
