Once your return has been filed, TurboTax doesn't have any control over when the refund is sent by the IRS. The protection plan that you added to your account typically provides audit assistance but it doesn't impact how quickly you receive your refund. If your refund hasn't been issued because you were audited or didn't respond to a letter or notice, we can help.

You can track your refund on the IRS website using their Where's My Refund system. You'll need your Social Security number, filing status, and exact refund amount. If the IRS website shows that your refund has already been sent and you never received it, you'll need to contact the IRS to initiate a refund trace.

The Where's My Refund site might also show that your refund was offset to pay a past due debt. If this is the case you should have also received a letter explaining the offset and where your refund was routed.

The site might explain that the IRS needs additional information from you sch as identity verification, or that they are just needing extra time to process your refund. If you have questions about either of these statuses, you can contact the IRS directly at 800-829-1040.
