The W2 doesn't say if you have a refund. It only shows withholding on it. Withholding is an estimated amount to apply to the tax due on your income. If they take out more than the tax on your income you get the difference back as a refund. If they don't withhold enough then you will end up with a tax due. You can give your employer a new W4 to have more taken out in the future so you don't end up owing again next year.
Hey, thanks for messaging, I appreciate the help! When I was initially filling out my state(CA) tax refund form i was awarded some money. I then had to fix my federal tax form as it got rejected. It got rejected because I accidentally noted that I am not able to be claimed as a dependent, I fixed the problem (Yes I am a dependent). I ended owing money after rejection issue was fixed. Should I go back in and redo my state form?
