Why can I not e-file without using the refund processing service? I

You can e-file without the refund processing fee. But you would need to change how you will pay for your fees. If you choose to have your payment taken out of your refund, then a refund processing fee of $34.99 is charged by the bank that handles the transaction. If you wish to avoid the fee and have not already filed, then you can pay with credit card instead

To change the option:

• Log in to your online account, and then click on the Take Me to My Return
• Click on the File tab at the end and then click on Start (or Revisit) next to Step 1.
• Click on View Payment Options at the bottom.
  
• Select Pay with Card to avoid refund processing fee
