@ouijacom asked: "Where is the no tax on tips on the W-2 page? wtf"
TurboTax is still working on the new tax changes from the President's One Big Beautiful Bill in regards to "no tax on eligible tips and overtime." That portion of the W-2 interview is incomplete. Currently after one enters a W-2, there is a screen of checkboxes that says "Let's check for uncommon situations" (if any). On the next screen after that, there is a screen in Online TurboTax that currently says:
It doesn't state "when" the program will be updated with that capability. So in January after you receive your W-2 from your employer, be sure to go through all the screens of the W-2 interview again. Be aware that some other forms are still in development as well.
TIP:
Do not file your return before receiving your actual W-2. It's not recommended to solely rely on check stubs, which could result in the need for an amended return.
Even in January don't be in a big hurry to file. The IRS will not open for processing of efiled returns (historically) until approx. the last week of January. While TurboTax may start allowing efiling in early January, those early returns would just sit on TurboTax servers until the IRS opens for tax season (except for a tiny number of returns the IRS pulls early for testing.) As a result, those early-filed returns cannot be retrieved if you notice any errors, get an additional W-2, need to make any changes, tax forms are revised, etc., and would require an amended return to correct anything, which can be a hassle..
