There will not be an EIN on your tax return.   Your W-2 issued by your employer has an EIN but that will not be on the Form 1040.  Why do you want to find it on your 1040?  What are you trying to do?

There is not an EIN on a federal tax return.  An EIN is the Employer Identification Number, usually found on a Form W-2 and/or Form 1099.

The Form 1040 will have the Social Security number of the taxpayer(s).

What exactly are you trying to find?

Where is the EIN number on my tax return?

Thank you for replying to my question. I am trying to get a copy of my W-2 from 2017 and I was hoping that you could help me locate this through my Turbo Tax return because I am unable to get this through IRS and ADP.

Where is the EIN number on my tax return?

@dpmciver

TurboTax does not have a copy of the W-2 or Form 1099.
It would have a Form W-2 Wage and Tax Statement that included the tax data from the forms that were entered.
The forms would be included in the PDF of the tax return in the tax year the return was completed.

Copies of a Form 1099 would have to obtained from the issuer of the form.

To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

If you cannot obtain the W-2 from your employer, then for a fee you can get a complete copy of a W-2 from the Social Security Administration - https://faq.ssa.gov/en-us/Topic/article/KA-02501

You can get a free Wage and Income transcript from the IRS - https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

For a fee of $43 you can get a complete federal tax return to include copies of W-2's, if you mailed the tax return and included a paper W-2, from the IRS by completing Form 4506 - http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf

Thank you for responding to my question. I am trying to get a copy of my W-2 through Turbo Tax because I was unable to get a copy of my 2017 W-2 through the IRS and ADP.

@dpmciver TurboTax cannot get your 2023 W-2 with only an EIN.    That is not enough.   You also need the amount from box 1 in order to import a W-2.   Box 1 is only on the actual W-2.

TurboTax does not have your W-2.   W-2’s come from employers.  There is not a federal or national website that provides W-2’s.   If your employer is partnered with TurboTax to allow the W-2 data to be imported into the software you can do that---but you need the actual W-2 so that you can enter the EIN and the amount from box 1 to import the other data from the W-2---which just saves you the little bit of keying in of the other information.

Some employers have payroll sites that will have your W-2. You might need to phone, drop in, email and/or snail mail an old employer to make sure they know where to send your W-2.

You can get a wage and income transcript from the IRS:  It will not show the actual W-2, 1099’s, etc, but will show the income information the IRS received.  It will not, however, show your state information. It will only show the federal information.

Other ways to get W-2’s:

Pay Social Security $126 per W-2:
