Where is my tax refund

What is happening with my tax return? I filed over a month ago and I haven't heard if I did something wrong or not.

Where is my tax refund

If you efiled, what do you see when you doublecheck with this tool to be sure the return was efiled successfully and accepted?

If that showed it was accepted (or if you mailed the return), what do you see at the IRS website below for the status of your Federal refund?

Many different factors can affect the timing of your refund after the IRS and state receive your return. Even though they issue most refunds in less than 21 days, it’s possible your refund may take longer. Use the following information to follow the status of your return with the IRS.

Once they start processing your return, the Where's My Refund?  tool includes a tracker that displays progress through 3 stages:

(1) Return Received

(2) Refund Approved

(3) Refund Sent

The tool  also provides an actual personalized refund date as soon as the IRS processes your tax return and approves your refund. It doesn't show information about amended returns.

Then, check your state's site for progress.  Keep in mind that each state is different and have different times of updating their sites.
