I need a simple name change, but, TurboTax now wants ME to MAIL IT instead of Efile? Where is the HELP? Where are the answers? Sorry this is long and thanks in advance.

If the corrected name does not match the SSN in the Social Security records, the IRS will reject the efiling.
I took the info directly from our 2019 & 2018 tax returns.... IT IS CORRECT.
I even looked at my wife's SS Card & the SS# is correct.
I will check her name tomorrow, but, this is BUL... Shi...
I pay the money to be able to Efile and now they will not accept.
Are they making it tougher to keep people from getting the Covid Relief Money?
I HOPE a solution presents itself. I tried to get an extension through TurboTax and EVEN THAT WAS REJECTED.
Thanks for any suggestions or any help in advance. Be Covid Safe & have a great week.

The failure of the IRS to accept a return is not a failing of the TT program ... you pay to use the program to complete a return that can be filed even if you must mail it in. Since TT doesn't control what the IRS does it cannot and does not guarantee that efiling will be successful.
The IRS compares the info they get from the SS administration and sometimes for no reason the information is corrupted. The IRS checks the first 4 letters of the last name, the year of birth and the SS# to accept a return. If any of these items do no match the SS records the return cannot be efiled. The only fix to this is to contact the SS office and find out what needs to be fixed.
