When using "Amend using TT Online", how do you submit the amended return to the IRS?

I followed the steps for amending online, but it reverted back to the original refund amount, and there were no further instructions. What do I still need to do?

You can e-file your 2022 1040-X. Please see this TurboTax FAQ for information on amending your tax return and steps to follow for success.

How do I get to form 1040-X? I clicked on the "amend online" button and followed the steps to add the form for the energy tax credit, searching the form I needed and using the "Jump To" link.

Now I have a 1040 that includes it, which means my refund is $500 more than it was. However, the overview page still lists the refund as the original amount, and the amount shown on the screen is the original amount. If form 1040-X is what I need to submit, why doesn't Turbo Tax populate that form for me to submit when I amend online? Do I now need to go back in and remove the energy credit form, so the original return is the same as what I have already submitted, and has been accepted by the IRS, and THEN submit form 1040-X?

When you amend the return, the tax form completed is then the 1040-X instead of the regular 1040. So as long as you have followed the amending the return process, what you file would be your 1040-X. @K Stew
