I got a message for my North Carolina return: "Caution: You have a tax situation that is impacted by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) or the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 (BBA)." It suggests I file an extension, but also says that if I owe NC money it's still due April 18. I'm currently getting a very small return, but that could easily flip with minor changes. This is my last year filing in NC (I moved mid-year), so I really want to get it right and avoid having to file an amended return next year. Is there a date by which any changes due to the new law will be reflected in TurboTax? Thank you!

The General Assembly is due to convene on May 16, 2018, a month after your taxes are due. That is why TurboTax is giving you this warning. To avoid the possibility of having to amend your North Carolina return, we can help you file an extension. This is done at the end of the state return. TurboTax asks if you want to file an extension and pay what is owed.
I've included a very good article that addresses your concerns:
