Generally, the IRS releases most refunds within 21 days from when the return is processed and accepted. If it is over 21 days, the IRS suggests that you give them a call and speak to a representative there to find out what is going on with your return and if there is anything else they need form you.
The IRS issues most refunds in less than 21 days, although some require additional time. You should only call if it has been:
- 21 days or more since you e-filed
- 6 weeks or more since you mailed your return, or when
- "Where's My Refund" tells you to contact the IRS
