When I replaced my Merrill Lynch downloaded statements, I ended up with duplicate values in my amended return. Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

Yes ... you had to delete an import when you import from the same place again.

I do not understand the answer. I deleted the import from Merrill Lynch but did not delete the data that was imported. Do I have to go into the return and delete all of the data that was imported from Merrill Lynch the first time before downloaded the data again?

Would changing the name of the downloaded data sets to ID the accts downloaded effect how the original imported data be handled when the new data sets are imported for the amended return?

use the command Remove Imported Data to get back to zero. Then import from ML and verify that it is all there.

This assumes you have started an AMEND and that your 1040X column A is populated with your original amounts.
After a fresh Import Column C should show the correct amounts.
