Please explain.   What two tax returns?    It is not possible for you to file two Form 1040's in the same year   --- the IRS will only accept one tax return under your Social Security number.   If you mean you had more than one W-2 from more than one employer, all of those W-2's are supposed to be on the same tax form---your Form 1040.   We do not know what thing your are referring to that was not "fair" or that was "messing up lives."   Please provide some details.

What to when you have 2 tax returns in the same year?

I logged into a different turbotax account to look at and made sure I had copies of all my past tax documents on my computer so that I can also make paper copies.  And I found one that I did not file or type or have anything to do with  also some of my years are missing interchangeably. I myself also did use turbotax my biggest regret I let soo to be ex husbands father a cpa do them in 2020 via the phone I saw in February of this while a turbotax live agent helped me access the aging from the irs website because the 2020 return was not yet on said turbotax account.  I more than positive my years of turbotax account has been compromised that's why Idnotify with you guys on my current turbotax account that I had to start over with so I hope me and my daughter are protected well. So this morning 2 or 3 hours I pulled up a very inaccurate 2020 tax that I could not have possibly filled due to my situation at the time and the other person my first ex-husband I believe has also been compromised due the fact that he could not have been living at the address on there and did at another listed address during that year.  My daughter has misinformation on that tax return as well. I'm very concerned I understand only one can be submitted but I did not fill or file or try to file 2 completely different tax at all  in 2020 and  I do have the 2020 copy I was to download that I did not file on turbotax in 2020. I was a part of the tax return with a different person married filing joint and like I mentioned his dad has his own tax business program not turbotax.

Please please please help I'm very concerned

Are you saying that you tried to e-file your return and it was rejected because someone else already filed using your social security number?   If so, then you are not filing 2 tax returns in the same year.   It just means that you are not able to e-file your return.   You will have to paper file your return.   You will most likely get a letter from the IRS asking you to confirm your identity before the processing of your return is completed.   Just be prepared that this can take longer to process.  Remember the IRS is only protecting you during this process.

Tax-related identity theft occurs when someone uses your stolen personal information, including your Social Security number, to file a tax return claiming a fraudulent refund. If you suspect you are a victim of identity theft, continue to pay your taxes and file your tax return, even if you must file a paper return.  Taxpayers Guide to Identity Theft

What to when you have 2 tax returns in the same year?

I have and am in possession of 2 different 2020 tax returns.  One down loaded from turbotax this morning on a different Account of from years use that was compromised I don't if it got filed at some point and rejected I don't know but I a physical copy of it. And I also have the one that I believe is to the one that may have been filled by my ex father in law that is a cpa. I am in physical possession of very  very different 2020 tax returns like I said and I'm beginning to think one was attempted to have been filled and possibly rejected I don't know I would like to know what is going on and my concerns that my first ex-husband who is on one I did not file with and our daughter it says I claimed her even though on a joint return we had never filed that way as well as a lot of other inconsistencies on this particular 2020 turbotax done return like I said it may have been rejected I don't know I did not use turbotax in 2020 I let soon to be ex husbands father do them with his cpa business software.

My concern is I believe that my soon to be ex husband was in possession of all of my past personal papers and affects and tried or is still trying to do something to get more money or something but it is not right and definitely not fair.

What to when you have 2 tax returns in the same year?

My irs transcript account had been populating and changing for about two months that I know for sure of while I has not yet filed.  I had a -balance of over 4000 dollars due money returned to the IRS and then about a week later the transcript stated 0 this was my original cause of concern cause my taxes were waiting to have fraud forms approved so they had not been efiled yet as I had to wait for the forms to be approved.  As well as the  information on irs transcript Accounts had very old addresses and the wrong last name.  I am now under belief that they possibly when they were done with the wrong information in  my old turbotax account my transcripts name changed back to an old name I no  longer had my daughter as an exemption and the person that altered changed the information in the turbotax return was what populated the changes on my irs transcript accepted by someone else and due a  those changes my transcripts were wrong.  I have since been able to file my transcripts are now somewhat correct but now my transcript return is no where near what my turbotax return says it should be. I am a victim of identity theft already s I'm fairly certain something is prolonging what happening with my tax return because it constantly says it's being processed and may take longer.

So I'm very concerned for a lot of things reassons

@WillainaJ    Apart from anything that anyone else has done----prepare and MAIL your own  correct 2020 tax return that claims your child.   You cannot e-file it.   It has to be mailed.  The IRS will sort it out.   Eventually you will hear from the IRS and you should be ready to show the IRS that your child lived with you---have school or daycare records, records from doctors and/or dentists, rent receipts/records etc, etc, etc.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
