What if box 2 on form 1098 says $0.00, when I do owe on the account? Is this incorrect information?

If this was a new loan in 2018, Box 2 should be blank. 

Please leave Box 2 blank if there was no loan balance on 01.01.2018. 

After you enter the 1098, the program will ask for your ending 01.01.2019 balance. 

The program might not like you leaving Box 2 blank, (it may say error in red), but after you enter a 2018 origination date, you can continue.
