First
-- verify that your return have been
filed and accepted -- then check the state web site to
see where you are in the process- then contact them to see what is taking so long.
Check Your E-File Status on this Secure TurboTax website
https://turbotax.intuit.com/efile/efile_status_lookup.jsp
- It will show the date you transmitted your return and if it was accepted or
rejected.
- Both your Federal and State will be listed separately if you filed both.
- It will tell you when you E-filed
- The electronic filing date

Per NC,
Due to enhanced identity theft protection measures, some refunds may take longer than normal, which is 8 weeks for electronically filed returns and 12 weeks for paper returns.

You can track your refund on the North Carolina Department of Revenue's Where's My Refund? page.
The average processing time for refunds is 6 weeks from the date they accepted or received the return.
If it has been more than 12 weeks since the NCDOR accepted (received) your return and you still don't have a refund, they ask that you call them toll-free on 1-877-252-3052.
Statement from North Carolina Department of revenue: the North Carolina Department of Revenue offers a text message notification service for updates on individual income returns. When you register for the service, you will receive a text message when a return is filed with your Social Security Number and when your refund in mailed or direct deposited. The service also allows you to take action before you to take action before a fraudulent refund is issued. If you are a victim of identity theft, you will receive a text message if a fraudulent return is filed with your social security number. The NCDOR will not include your Social Security Number in any text message.
