Are you sure? It's not on line 28? If you see 3,000 on your return it's not for the amount you got but it's the extra missing amount.
Turbo Tax started out giving you the full amount. So your refund was too high. Then you enter what you already received so it subtracts out what you already got. Check 1040 lines 19 and 28 and schedule 8812.
Do your children show up as dependents and are checked for the Child Tax Credit?
Before filing, You can preview the 1040 or print the whole return
I am in the process of filing. I added in the 3000 we got between july and december last year and the show my refund so far doesn't show the other half we should be getting
Where doesn't it show it? It was probably added before you noticed. It was added as soon as you entered your children. Not when you enter what you already got.
on the estimated return. It was higher (right) until I added in the advance we already got then it went down to 100 bucks. Am I missing something?
The "refund monitor" starts off by giving your all of the stimulus money and all of the child tax credit because the software does not know yet that you received stimulus money or that you received some advance child tax credit payments. That gets reconciled later.
That "refund monitor" changes as you enter information. That is normal. And you cannot take it seriously until you enter ALL of your information---even though it is so tempting to believe that the highest amount is the "right" refund.
