Waiting on letter from irs

I called and spoke to someone with the IRS she told me I will be receiving a letter and to call them when I get it and have my 1040 because I have to verify who I am which is fine. The question I have is do I need my 1040 from last year because when I try and pull this years up lt downloads something saying I don't have to file (state). Where can I get my 2019 1040? After they verify who I am how long does it take to get my refund? I filed and was accepted on Jan 29th. I'm so confused why am I having to validate who I am? Do they just randomly pick people?  PLEASE HELP

You may need a copy of your 2018 and 2019 return.

How long the verifcaiton process takes is completly unknown and depends on the IRS. You will need to contact the IRS for questions relating to the process timeframe: How do I contact the Internal Revenue Service (IRS... - Community

Why do I have to validate?

The IRS often examines returns when certain indicators pop up to be sure it's really you filing the return and not tax fraud or ID theft.

"Accepted" is merely referring to an efile status.  It means your efiled return was formatted correctly with the basic requirements to meet the IRS specifications so that they could agree to start processing.   During processing if something came up, they might ask you to verify ID.

*this is a question you can ask the IRS upon contacting them directly, since the reason is based upon your indiviual return.
