I am having this problem and WA has a sales tax - NO state tax to file.  This has turned into a real frustration for me!  TT - get your act together!

I am a California resident and I received this message while e-filing: 

 

The Intuit Electronic Filing System is having difficulty recognizing the data in the return you are sending. To ensure you have the latest version of TurboTax, wait 24 hours to update your program automatically. If you still can't transmit your return, go to www.support.turbotax.com for a solution or workaround. In some cases, you may need to file your return by mail. - 601ERRV:5, CustHdr_17 - ?:? - Invalid SMS Number. Must be between 10 and 10 digits.

 

I fixed the number and it is 10 digits now. Any and all help for submittal is highly appreciated. I tried 24 hours later and still seeing the same message.

TurboTax’s proposal that  I mail my New York State tax return remains unacceptable. Since window users are able to e-transmit, this problem needs to be corrected for MAC users. I am very disappointed.

This does not work for me.  I am using the web version of Turbo Tax, and I always get this message:

 

Your transmission didn't go through

We could not e-file your return for the following reason:

I suspect you are a foreign filer; i.e., filing from outside the USA. Here's the workaround for the 601ERRV5 error you are getting:

 

If you have a phone number listed in your Intuit Account settings, then you must make sure you use a valid 10-digit domestic USA phone number in both your Intuit Account settings and in your return.   Or you can try removing the phone number from the Intuit Account and leaving it blank there.

 

See if this FAQ helps.  It's a slightly different error, but the solution is the same.

Also see this answer by TurboTax DawnC in the thread linked below, who says not to use a number like Google Voice, Skype, etc.  in the Intuit Account settings, at least not until after you successfully efile.   She also says it may be possible to leave the phone number blank in the Intuit Account settings.

Also see this other thread with other out-of-country users with the same problem who were able to correct the error.  Several have posted anecdotes there about how they solved it.   If you have trouble, post there, and they can probably help you.

NOTE: 

A couple of users have said that even after making changes to (or removing) the phone in the Intuit Account, the efile problem still happened, until they logged out of TurboTax then logged back in. Apparently that reset something.  So if you make any changes to the phone number listed in your Intuit Account settings, after you save the settings, log out of TurboTax and close the browser. Then reopen it and log back in and try to efile.

Leaving abroad, I have only a federal tax return to fill and transmit. Turbotax unable to transmit it, arguing false technical reasons! I don't want to file by mail. Why the hell Turbotax has not fixed the problem yet!...after getting paid!

It's difficult to comment since you didn't describe your issue or what product you are using.   Are you using desktop software (CD/download) or Online TurboTax?  

 

To get help in a user community forum, you need to first fully describe your error message in detail and what product platform you are using.  There are a couple of possibilities peculiar to foreign filing that might be at play.  But we don't know what you are referring to.   Here are a couple of common examples:

 

Are you by any chance getting this error message?

601ERRV:5, CustHdr_17 - ?:? - Invalid SMS Number. Must be between 10 and 10 digits.

If so, we can tell you the workaround.  In fact, I already provided the workaround for that error code higher up in this thread.  So if that's your error, you can scroll up in this thread for info on how to fix it.

 

Or do you have a zero-income return due to the foreign earned income exclusion?   If so, we can tell you a workaround.

 

If neither of those is your issue, then you need to provide some information about what you are experiencing.   If it turns out you need to speak to Customer Support, are you able to phone 800 numbers in the USA from your location?  If not, we can tell you how to message them through Facebook/Twitter.

More than one issue and situation have been discussed in this thread.  What are the details of yours?   And are you using Online TurboTax or desktop software (CD/download)?
