Unable to Transmit Return

I have a Windows 10 Pro computer (fully updated) and TurboTax Deluxe 2019. I have completed my taxes and TurboTax has verified the taxes as being completed. I am trying to transmit my returns. When I click on the "Transmit Returns Now" button, it states:

"There is an update available for your version of TurboTax. Before you can file electronically, you'll need to get this update. To do this, go to the Online menu and select Check for Updates." (This is repeated twice in the box.)

When I go to check for updates, the Updater responds "Your software is up to date."

I have saved the file and exited TurboTax and when I reopen the file, the same thing happens. I have rebooted the computer and tried. The same thing happens (did this twice). I shut down the computer, let it sit for a minute, re-started the computer, opened TurboTax and tried again, and the same thing happens.

What do I need to do to file my taxes electronically?

Thank you for your help.

I've had the same issues today as well.  I decided to just try to transmit my Federal returns, and that worked.  When I tried to file my NYS return, I received the same message about updates needed.  I was able to transmit my daughter's fed and state returns about 5 days ago.  Must be a glitch in the state update.

Came back this evening (late). It did state updates. When I tried to transmit the files, it allowed me to do so. Thank you for your hint.

Similar issue here. As suggested I submitted my Federal return separately and that worked fine. I exited turbotax and tried to resubmit my state (NY) return and received the same error message.

Definitely seems like a glitch submitting state returns.

I will try again later.

Please see the TurboTax FAQ for a work around if you're having trouble e-filing and you're currently using TurboTax Desktop: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-topics/help/turbotax-desktop-windows-update-loop-at-e-file/00/1116299

Unfortunately, uninstalling and reinstalling turbotax did not work for me. Hopefully this gets resolved soon. I do not want to file by mail.

It is highly regrettable that the FAQ cited is the most abysmal description of what to do for an internal software error in the product.

As I mentioned above, after 6 hours, I re-opened TurboTax and it updated both my Massachusetts and New York returns. Once it did that, I was able to submit my Federal and state returns.

it is obviously a flagging issue in the software based on my experience and that described by the other users. TurboTax should recognize that there is a software error and not simply assume that it is a user or user’s computer error.

Your comments were super helpful.  Have been encountering the same issue after restarting the application, etc. I ended up just transmitting my Federal.  I will have to go back and try NY State again at a later time. Seems to be the blocker.

I am having the same issues as you stated. I also did everything you did and still can't transmit the returns. I even changed browsers. Still nothing. This is HORRIBLE!

This evening an update to NY state was issued. Once I downloaded and updated the software I was able to file. Hopefully your issue will be resolved with an update to the state tax file as well.

I just got the same error message.  I live in Florida and we don't have a state income tax.  I am unable to file my federal return.  The NY and Mass manual updates don't help.

I followed the instructions and clicked on How do I contact Turbo Tax.  I clicked on the link for downloaded software and was never given the opportunity to ask a question or hit continue.  I got a generic page about what I needed help with  and a promotion to buy the software.

This solution provides manual updates for two states.

I'm having this issue with a Wisconsin tax return, and the solution does not list manual updates for Wisconsin.

Can you please provide a fix for Wisconsin returns.

Is there a software update available for the state of Michigan? I am having the same problem as those people filing NY, MA, and WI returns. Cannot get past the "transmit return" step without running an update, which is failing. Thx!

Currently not showing a update but there are a few things to check. First, if you already filed your federal, you will have to wait until it has been "Accepted" by the IRS before you are able to go in and file your State.

How do I e-file my state after I already filed my federal?

Please see the link below for "transmission issues:

I live in Texas and do not pay state income tax, we don't have it.  I have tried over four days to submit my federal return electronically.  It keeps telling me to check for updates.  I do that and am informed that my software is up to date, but when I try to submit I get the same message.  I have used your software for years, but this may be the last.  This is the most frustrating mess I have had with you ever!  You do not have a phone number for me to talk to a live operator.  I have two companies to run and do not have time for this! There are various reasons you may be receiving this error, when trying to transmit your return. Please see the TurboTax FAQ on how to resolve this: Transmitting your return.

Same problem with transmitting.  Cant update as Turbo Tax says all updated.  Live in Michigan and on a MacBook Pro.  Ive used TT for years without a hitch, now this.  Support was called, talked and allowed screen viewing.  The technician  was  nice but told best thing is to wait until Tuesday as updates close on Monday, holiday for Presidents Day.   I did everything, changed browsers to Firefox, same result. Even installed TT again but no help.  The tech said to get rid of second installation which i did.  Crossing my fingers for Tuesday update.   do not want to mail, 68 pages for Federal alone.  plus State has a bunch too.

I'm trying to submit Federal and Michigan.  I get the same unable to submit because I need an update ... which isn't available.  I was able to pay for my state return and didn't have any problems until I get to the end of the process.

Endless lists of forms don't help us as we don't know which form of lack of form is causing problems.
