You are not required to wait for your refund to amend, but it may not be a bad idea. There may have been discrepancies that the IRS finds on your original return and you can handle everything at once. Since you have already filed a return, the April 15 date is not pressing.

Totally agree.  And since amended returns take several months to process, waiting to file it doesn't add much time.
