The IRS is questioning my return from 2020 and a form I completed on Turbo Tax. How do I contact someone from Turbo Tax to help?

We completed everything according to the instructions in Turbo Tax, but the IRS is saying a form was completed incorrectly and we do not qualify for the credit at issue. I have reviewed the instruction for the form and believe we do qualify for the credit. Can Turbo Tax help with this?

I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THE IRS/STATE

TurboTax does not receive any information from the IRS or your state after your return was filed, so no one at TurboTax knows about a letter you received from the IRS or the state.

(what the letters from the IRS mean)

I GOT A LETTER FROM THE IRS

I AM BEING AUDITED

AUDIT SUPPORT

TurboTax has a special phone number for help with IRS/state tax letters, which will be easier than going through regular Customer Support.   At the page below, click on the blue button that says "Get Help from TurboTax Support".  Then it will ask you what tax year is your letter.  Then it will ask you what the letter concerns. Then it will show you the phone number during posted business hours.

A common problem from 2020 is the Recovery Rebate Credit on 1040 line 30.  A lot of people made mistakes on line 30.  Line 30 is only if you didn't get the full amount or qualify for more. Not the amount you already got.

There were 2 Stimulus payments for 2020.

EIP1 The first Stimulus payment was 1,200 for each spouse and 500 for each dependent under 17. Came out in spring of 2020.

EIP2 The second Stimulus was 600 per person and dependents under 17. The 2nd stimulus checks started going out at the very end of December 2020 and continued into January/Feb 2021.

Double check your bank accounts and check your IRS account (both if married) to see how much the IRS sent you.

Yes--- a LOT of people made mistakes with the recovery rebate credit on 2020 and 2021 returns.  The recovery rebate credit was only if you did NOT receive the stimulus checks that were issued by the IRS.   A lot of people made mistakes and claimed the credit on their tax returns --- on line 30--- and they had actually already received the stimulus checks, so the credit was not allowed and the IRS changed their refunds or some people even owed.     Does your letter from the IRS mention that credit or line 30?

Check your own bank account for deposits of the stimulus checks, and check your online account with the IRS to see what the IRS shows they sent to you.

Try checking your online account with the IRS (and if you filed a joint return—check for BOTH of you)
